Our stations (and volunteer watchkeepers) can sometimes be called upon outside of normal opening hours. On Saturday, the Station Manager at NCI St Ives received a phone call from Falmouth Coastguard at 17:20 regarding a Mayday transmission – with no name and no location given but in the vicinity of St Ives. They had no other information and enquired if the watchkeepers had seen anything. Watchkeeper Peter went and reopened the station at 17:30 to provide assistance. The lifeboat was launched and a yacht was found the other side of Clodgy, out of sight of the lookout.
